UGM Physics Department Receives Visit from BRIN’s Nanotechnology and Material Research Organization for Research Collaboration Discussion

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Yogyakarta, July 25, 2024 – The Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) received a visit from the team of the Nanotechnology and Material Research Organization – National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) on Thursday, July 25, 2024. This visit was conducted to explore potential research collaboration and technology development.

The BRIN delegation was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr.Eng. Edi Suharyadi, S.Si., M.Eng., Head of the Physics Department of FMIPA UGM, along with other faculty members. During the meeting, which took place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM WIB, both parties discussed various opportunities and potentials for conducting joint research in the fields of nanotechnology and materials.

UGM Physics Department Proud! Doctoral Student Wins International Award in Vietnam

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The Department of Physics at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has achieved international recognition again. Nugraheni Puspita Rini, a doctoral student in Physics at UGM, won the “Best Oral Presentation” award at the prestigious International Symposium on Advanced Magnetic Materials and Applications (ISAMMA) 2024. The event, held in Vietnam from August 4-8, 2024, attracted 300 participants from 20 countries.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]ISAMMA, a biennial symposium, provides a platform for scientists and researchers to present the latest innovations and research in magnetic materials. This year, Nugraheni impressed the judges with her presentation titled “Photocatalytic Degradation of Rhodamin B using Green Synthesized Fe3O4/rGO/ZnO Magnetic Nanocomposite Utilizing Moringa Oleifera and Amaranthus Viridis Leaf Extract.” Her research explores the use of eco-friendly magnetic nanocomposites to degrade Rhodamin B dye, utilizing Moringa and Red Amaranth leaf extracts as key components in the synthesis.

HMPF x FMIPA Hold Scientific Writing Workshop: Publishing in Reputable Journals Made “Easy”

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Yogyakarta, July 22nd, 2024 – Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) together with Physics Graduate Student Association (HMPF) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a scientific writing seminar with the theme of “From research to publication: enhancing scientific writing skills for global recognition“. It took place in the auditorium room A106 FMIPA UGM on July 22nd, 2024. This event is open to the public by presenting a speaker from the University of Birmingham, Dr. Ruchi Gupta who has a track record of excellent publications. This seminar aims to increase the enthusiasm of the academic community not to be afraid to try and increase the enthusiasm to write in reputable international journals. Roto, M.Eng., Ph.D. as the Vice Dean for Education, Teaching, and Student Affairs as well as opening this seminar. Prof. Roto also said that scientific writing is an interesting thing to discuss for the academic community and also hopes that the presentation of the material can be useful in the future. Not to forget, considering the speaker came from abroad, this seminar was held in English.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”14001″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The event lasted for approximately three hours and was hosted by Eldiana Rully Arsetiyani, S.Si. as the MC and moderator of this event. Dr. Ruchi Gupta presented the seminar in the form of discussions with participants, where 30% was done by delivering material and 70% was done by the participants answering questions given by Dr. Gupta. Dr. Gupta also explained the importance of the role of logic in writing with the IMRaD format (Introduction, Methodology, Result, and Discussion/Conclusion). In addition, Dr. Gupta also explained the procedure for writing abstracts in the order of Why? What? How? So What? To emphasize the importance of our research in the eyes of other researchers. But again, the purpose of all this is to improve our writing skills, especially for writing final assignments and articles.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”13997″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The event ended with a group photo with Dr. Ruchi Gupta who has given her knowledge focused on the logic and procedures of writing in internationally reputable articles. This event was held with the aim of training the academic community for all levels not to be afraid to try writing in reputable articles. The participants were also given the message to keep trying and writing, because only then our ability to write will continue to increase. This activity also reflects that learning is not only done in writing in the classroom. There are some lessons that can only be obtained from experience, whether it is experienced by ourselves or the experiences of others who are told to us. In closing, remember not to be afraid to try, because a million steps always start from one small step.

Department of Physics Welcomes Comparative Study Visit from ITERA Physics Program

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, the Department of Physics hosted a comparative study visit from the Physics Study Program of the Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA). The visit took place from 9:00 to 11:00 AM WIB.

The main goal of this visit was to discuss and compare the curricula and the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program at both institutions. It aimed to serve as a platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences to enhance the quality of education and learning in the field of physics.

International Collaboration: UGM Physics Students Accepted into Intensive Program with I-Shou University Taiwan

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Yogyakarta, June 12, 2024 – The Physics Study Program at UGM continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing the quality of international education through collaboration with i-Shou University, Taiwan. Six undergraduate students from UGM’s Physics program have been accepted into the intensive “Post-Baccalaureate Two-Year Bachelor’s Degree Program” organized in partnership with i-Shou University. This program is designed to strengthen students’ competencies in the field of semiconductors, provide international learning experiences, and expand their academic and professional networks. Participants will undergo an intensive study period in Taiwan, utilizing the facilities and expertise available at i-Shou University, and will then have the opportunity to work for two years with partner companies in Taiwan.

Encouraging Academic Enthusiasm: UGM Physics Department Conducts Study Program Socialization at SMAN 2 Bantul

This activity was a response to a request from the school and was part of the Academic Guidance program organized for 11th and 12th-grade students to prepare them for the 2024/2025 academic year.

The socialization was conducted in two sessions: from 7:15 AM to 8:45 AM for 11th-grade students and from 8:45 AM to 10:15 AM for 12th-grade students. The socialization team from the Physics Department included Prof. Dr. Eng. Edi Suharyadi, S.Si., M.Eng (Head of the Physics Department), Dr.rer.nat. Herlan Darmawan, M.Sc (Secretary of the Geophysics Undergraduate Program), Dr. Juliasih Partini, S.Si., M.Si. (Secretary of the Physics Undergraduate Program), and Muhammad Arifin, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Head of the Physics Materials and Instrumentation Research Group). Prof. Dr. Eng. Writing and Motivation Workshop: Enhancing Academic Competence and Spirit for Physics Doctoral Students

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Yogyakarta, July 16, 2024 – The Physics Doctoral Program of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized a “Writing and Motivation Workshop for Doctoral Students” held in Room A106 of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UGM. This event aimed to improve scientific writing skills and motivate doctoral students to achieve academic success and career advancements post-graduation.

The workshop began with registration and opening remarks from Prof. Dr. Eng. Edi Suharyadi, S.Si., M.Eng., the Head of the Physics Department. This was followed by Prof. Sholihun, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D.Sc., Head of the Doctoral Program in Physics, who presented program-related materials, from study schemes to dissertations, followed by a Q&A session.
