UGM’s Functional Materials and Instrumentation Physics Research Group Holds Community Service Program at Muhammadiyah 1 Senior High School Yogyakarta: Exploring Quantum Science, Careers, and Finance in the World of Physics

The Functional Materials and Instrumentation Physics Research Group of the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, once again organized a Community Service Program on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The event, themed The International Year of Quantum Science and Technology: Building the Future of Careers and Finance through Physics, took place at Muhammadiyah 1 Senior High School Yogyakarta and was attended by 60 enthusiastic Grade XI and XII students with a strong interest in physics.

The Material and Instrumentation Physics Expertise Group (KBK) from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), once again held a Community Service Program (PKM) on Monday, July 14, 2025, at SMA Negeri 8 Yogyakarta. This event carried the theme International Year of Quantum Science and Technology: Building a Career and Financial Future with Physics and was attended by around 270 11th-grade students.

This event aimed to introduce high school students to the field of physics and its applications, and was presented by lecturers from the Physics Department of UGM. It is hoped that after this event, high school students will develop an interest in natural sciences, especially physics, and be motivated to study it further.

The event which took place on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 received a warm welcome from the headmaster, Isti Fatimah, M.Pd. She hopes that this activity can motivate students of SMA N 2 Bantul to continue their education to a higher level.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, the Basic Physics Laboratory received a visit from Da’ar El Salam High School Bogor. The purpose of this visit was to acquire academic information and introduce laboratory physics practical activities to the students. The delegation from Da’ar El Salam High School consisted of 40 individuals, including 30 students and 10 teachers.

The students and teachers were warmly welcomed by Dr. Eko Sulistya, M.Si., the Head of the Basic Physics Laboratory. He provided insights into the structure of educators and laboratory-managing lecturers in the Physics Department, introduced various practical rooms along with their experiments, and explained the equipment used in Basic Physics experiments. [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]February 12, 2024, the Basic Physics Laboratory under the UGM Department of Physics received a visit from students of SD IT BIAS Yogyakarta. This visit aims to build the aspirations and motivation of students to be enthusiastic about learning, as well as introducing students to what science is and fun science phenomena.

100 students from SD IT BIAS Yogyakarta, consisting of 5th and 6th graders, were divided into two large groups. In the caloric room, the first group was invited to recognize phenomena that are closely related to physics. [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, Department of Physics UGM received a visit from MAN 1 Surakarta, the activity took place at the Basic Physics Laboratory on the 1st floor of the Physics Department building. This visit aims to increase students’ interest in science and learn more about the basics of physical measurements in physics.
