The Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FMIPA UGM) once again organized a Public Lecture, featuring Prof. Dr. Ariando from the Department of Physics, National University of Singapore (NUS) as the guest speaker. The event was held on Friday, October 10, 2025, in Meeting Room I, Department of Physics FMIPA UGM, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (WIB).
On this occasion, Prof. Ariando delivered a presentation titled “Current Updates on the Physics and Application of Quantum Materials,” which provided an in-depth discussion on the latest developments in quantum materials physics and their potential applications in future technologies. He explained how recent research on quantum materials—including superconductors, topological insulators, and two-dimensional materials—has opened significant opportunities in advancing quantum computing, spintronics, and high-performance electronic devices.
In addition to the scientific discussion, Prof. Ariando also shared valuable information about academic and research scholarship opportunities at the Department of Physics, NUS, highlighting various international collaboration programs, student exchange opportunities, and graduate study options for students and young researchers interested in pursuing academic careers in the field of quantum materials physics.
The lecture was attended by undergraduate (BSc), master’s (MSc), and doctoral (PhD) students, as well as lecturers and researchers from FMIPA UGM, all of whom showed great enthusiasm to deepen their understanding of quantum materials research. The discussion session was lively and interactive, with participants posing insightful questions about experimental research methods, fabrication techniques of quantum materials, and potential research collaborations between UGM and NUS in the future.
This public lecture not only enriched the participants’ scientific knowledge but also served as a strategic platform to strengthen academic ties and research collaboration between UGM and NUS, two leading universities in Southeast Asia. Through this event, it is expected that a productive collaborative network can be fostered to advance science and technology development, particularly in the field of quantum materials physics and its applications.
The organization of this public lecture reflects the commitment of the Department of Physics FMIPA UGM to continually provide high-quality academic activities featuring renowned international experts, as part of its ongoing effort to support UGM’s vision of becoming a world-class research university that contributes to the advancement of global science and technology.
