Magelang, August 30-31, 2023 – The Department of Physics at UGM hosted a workshop titled “Enhancing and Strengthening Research Collaboration between Theoretical and Computational Physics and Applied Physics KBKs” at Hotel Puri Asri in Magelang. The workshop aimed to foster research cooperation between faculty members in two Key Expertise Areas (KBK), namely Theoretical and Computational Physics (FTK) and Applied Physics (FIT).
The workshop was opened by Dr. Dwi Satya Palupi, S.Si., M.Si., Chair of the Theoretical and Computational Physics KBK, who emphasized the importance of collaboration in research to address future challenges. She stated that strong collaboration is key to producing impactful and relevant research.
Over the course of two days, faculty members from both KBKs presented their achievements, developments, and challenges in their respective research fields. Each presentation was followed by a discussion session where participants exchanged insights and solutions to overcome various research challenges.
The presentations provided a comprehensive overview of ongoing research and achieved results. For example, some faculty members reported significant progress in computational simulations for predicting new material properties, while others discussed practical applications of applied physics technology in industry and healthcare.
The first day concluded with intensive group presentations and discussions. Faculty members discussed the challenges faced in research and sought solutions collaboratively. This discussion was expected to pave the way for closer and more productive collaboration in the future.
On the second day, the workshop continued with evaluation sessions and the drafting of future agendas for the Theoretical and Computational Physics KBK and the Applied Physics KBK. One of the main outcomes of the workshop was the identification of potential areas for further research collaboration. Faculty members also successfully formulated strategies to address research obstacles, build stronger networks between FTK and FIT KBKs, and develop concrete follow-up plans. These plans include implementing collaborative projects, exchanging data and information between research groups, and submitting joint research proposals for funding.
With the conclusion of this workshop, the Department of Physics at UGM hopes that faculty members will apply the results of the discussions and collaborations in their respective research. The workshop is expected to be a starting point for enhancing research collaboration and generating more innovative and impactful research.
The Department of Physics at UGM remains committed to supporting the advancement of science and technology through various initiatives such as this workshop. By improving research collaboration, it is hoped that the resulting research will contribute significantly to the development of physics and its applications in Indonesia.
This workshop focused on improving the quality of education and research at UGM, aiming to enhance faculty competence and the quality of research produced. This aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education. The discussions and collaborations during the workshop aimed to produce innovative and applicable research that could contribute to the development of new industries and technologies, aligning with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. The workshop is a concrete example of collaboration and partnerships between faculty members in theoretical and computational physics and applied physics, as well as with experts and practitioners, to achieve common goals in research and the advancement of science, reflecting SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
