Yogyakarta, June 28-29, 2024 – The Physics Department of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized a training event titled “Communication Skills Training for Service and Master of Ceremony” held at Hotel Melia Purosani. This training aimed to improve the communication skills of staff (educational staff) to provide optimal service and equip them with skills to become professional masters of ceremonies.
The training began on June 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM WIB with participant registration. The event was officially opened by an MC from the Physics Department of UGM, followed by a welcoming speech from the Head of the Physics Department, Prof. Dr.Eng. Edi Suharyadi, S.Si., M.Eng. This was followed by an ice-breaking session led by an assistant trainer from Swaragama Training Center (STC).
During the main event, Gideon Surya, a trainer from STC, presented material on “Communication Skills Training for Service.” In this session, Gideon Surya explained various effective communication techniques that can be used to provide public service. Additionally, after the material presentation, participants engaged in role-playing and practical exercises to directly apply the communication techniques taught.
“In providing service, what we need to pay attention to are anticipating needs, appearance, and expressing gratitude,” said Gideon Surya.
On the second day of the training, June 29, 2024, Linda Widyastuti, another trainer from STC, delivered material on skills for becoming a master of ceremonies. Linda Widyastuti shared various tips and tricks to become an engaging and professional MC. Linda explained that being an MC requires continuous practice, learning voice intonation, and body gestures. Participants were invited to practice the material directly and followed by a question-and-answer session, providing an opportunity for participants to delve deeper into the techniques of becoming an MC.

“As educational staff, we must serve wholeheartedly and give our best, even if it seems simple, and keep moving forward with the times. There are only two choices: succeed or become a fossil,” said Pramesti, one of the educational staff of UGM’s Physics Department.
This training is expected to provide significant benefits to all participants, regardless of age, in developing effective and professional communication skills, whether in service to students, partners, or any stakeholders of the Physics Department. By enhancing communication skills, this training can improve employability or the ability to secure decent employment.
