Department of Physics UGM Receives Visit from SMA 1 Genteng Banyuwangi

On Monday, February 5, 2024 Department of Physics UGM received a visit from students from SMA 1 Genteng Banyuwangi. This activity began with a welcoming ceremony from the Faculty in the 7th Floor Auditorium Room of the UGM FMIPA lecture building, then continued with the presentation of study programs in the Department of Physics, Physics and Geophysics study programs.

The presentation of the Physics study program was given by Dr.Eng. Ahmad Kusumaatmaja, S.Si., M.Sc. as the head of the Physics undergraduate study program and for the Physics study program was given by Dr. rer. nat. Herlan Darmawan, M.Sc as the secretary of Geophysics undergraduate study program. In both presentations, the students were given information about what the Physics and Geophysics study programs are, a list of courses, lecture facilities, study program registration procedures, scholarships, alumni networks, career paths and others. The presentation of the study program was completed followed by a question and answer session, plaque giving and group photos.

After the series of activities in the faculty were completed, the students continued the activities with a lab tour in the UGM Physics Department, namely the Basic Physics Laboratory, Atomic and Core Physics Laboratory, Material Physics and Instrumentation Laboratory and Geophysics Laboratory. In this lab tour, the students were told what practicum and research activities were in each laboratory then the tools and what the uses of the tools in each laboratory.

With the visit of SMA 1 Genteng Banyuwangi, the Department of Physics as one of the departments in FMIPA UGM also supports SDGs point 4 (Quality Education) and point 17 (Partnership to Achieve Goals). This visit not only strengthens the relationship between the Department of Physics and schools, but also becomes an opportunity for the Department of Physics to contribute directly to education at the secondary school level and community service.
