As part of FMNS, the Department of Physics prepares a Strategic Plan (Renstra) to provide a forum for programs, excellence, and development that are specific to the Department of Physics. The Strategic Plan of the Department of Physics 2023-2027 was prepared by a Task Force Team consisting of a number of seniors in the Department of Physics, department leaders, managers of study programs, laboratories, and KBK.
On January 24, 2024, the Department of Physics UGM held a workshop to prepare the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan. The workshop was attended by almost all lecturers of the Department of Physics and invited 3 speakers, namely: Prof. Dr. Agus Haryono. M.Sc (Deputy for Research and Innovation Facility of BRIN); Prof. Dr. M.Si. (Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences); and Bachtiar Rifai, S.Si., M.Sc. (Founder & CEO of Volantis Technology).
Prof. Dr. Kuwat Triyana. M.Si. presented that the Strategic Plan of FMIPA UGM has four strategic goals including employability, academic reputation, contribution to solving community problems and welfare. To achieve these strategic goals, FMIPA UGM provides supporting facilities such as Career Center, Taiwan Center, Omah TI, Health Promoting University, and many more. The four strategic goals will be achieved by strategic programs followed by indicators taken from the performance achievement targets (TCK) of the Physics Department mandated by FMIPA added with additional indicators set by the Physics Department.
Although present online, Prof. Dr. Agus Haryono. M.Sc as the Deputy for Research Facilities and Innovation of BRIN explained the field of study around the potential of research in Indonesia. Bachtiar Rifai, S.Si. as Founder & CEO of Volantis Technology also explained the supply and demand related to the quality of graduates with the qualifications of industry requirements. Therefore, he said that there is a need for a platform in the field of technology, entrepreneurship, and industry/research landscape for students, which will be executed in the field of research collaboration to produce a professional labor.
Indeed, the insights from the three speakers are useful as suggestions for updating the Strategic Plan of the Physics Department in the future.
