The Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada once again held a Guest Lecturer event as part of its commitment to providing global perspectives and enriching the academic experience of both students and faculty members. On 13 November 2025, the event took place in Meeting Room 1, Department of Physics, FMIPA UGM, featuring a speaker from the Kyushu Institute of Technology, Prof. Jin Nakamura.
The event commenced at 13:00 WIB, beginning with opening remarks from a representative of the Department of Physics, who emphasized the importance of international academic activities in strengthening research capacity and learning within the university environment. The presence of participants—including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, and general attendees—reflected the strong interest in the topic presented.
In his lecture, the speaker outlined the latest developments in the design of advanced materials aimed at environmental and biomedical applications. The topics discussed included strategies for structural engineering of materials, new approaches in the development of functional materials, and the scientific challenges that remain in their practical implementation.
In addition to presenting the main topic, Prof. Nakamura also introduced Kyutech LSSE (Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering) as one of Japan’s leading research centers in materials engineering and life-system technologies. He provided an overview of the academic environment, laboratory facilities, and ongoing research projects at the institution.
Furthermore, participants received valuable information regarding the MEXT scholarship program, including application requirements, the selection process, and research opportunities accessible to Indonesian students interested in pursuing further studies at Kyutech.
The event proceeded interactively, marked by high enthusiasm from students, faculty members, and other attendees. The discussions that emerged demonstrated a strong interest in research opportunities and further studies in advanced materials, as well as the potential for international collaboration.
The Department of Physics at UGM hopes that activities such as this will continue to foster scientific dialogue and expand research networks within the academic community.
